Zul Rafique & partners is a Kuala Lumpur‐based law firm that was formed in December 1999. The firm which is now one of the largest in Malaysia, is led by founder and Managing Partner, Dato’ Zulkifly Rafique, who also spearheads the Corporate Department.

The firm is at the forefront of the Islamic finance legal practice and have advised on several award-winning and complex landmark Islamic finance transactions both globally and in Malaysia.

Islamic finance practice group is led by a team of lawyers who are well recognised by publishing houses as leading lawyers in Islamic finance in Malaysia.   • Acted for Maybank Investment Bank Berhad as Facility Agent in relation to a Syndicated Murabaha Term Financing Facility of USD780 million granted to Yinson Production (West Africa) Pte Ltd (Yinson) to inter alia, refinance Yinson’s existing conventional facility of USD780 million which was utilized for the acquisition, conversion and refurbishment of a floating production, storage and offloading unit (the Vessel) as well as the chartering, installation and operation of the Vessel in the Offshore Cape Three Points block located in the Tano Basin (Ghana)
  • Acted for Maxis Broadband Sdn Bhd in relation to Issuance of Islamic Medium Term Notes by Maxis Broadband Sdn Bhd pursuant to an unrated Islamic Medium Term Notes Programme (the Programme) with an aggregate nominal value of up to MYR10 billion, based on the Shariah principle of Murabahah (via a Tawarruq arrangement)
  • Advised Maybank Investment Bank Berhad as coordinating bank in relation to a 7-year multi-currency facilities of approximately USD1.5 billion equivalent granted to SapuraKencana Petroleum Berhad's subsidiary, SapuraKencana TMC Sdn Bhd, by a consortium of Malaysian, regional and international banks, to refinance existing borrowings
  • Advised Affin Hwang Investment Bank Berhad as Principal Adviser and Lead Arranger in respect of Widad Capital Sdn Bhd's Islamic Medium Term Notes Programme under the Shariah principle of Murabahah via a Tawarruq arrangement of up to MYR110 million
  • Advised RHB Investment Bank Berhad as Principal Adviser and AmBank Investment Bank Berhad, CIMB Investment Bank Berhad, Maybank Investment Bank Berhad, OCBC Al-Amin Bank Berhad and RHB Investment Bank Berhad as Joint Lead Arrangers in respect of APM Automotive Holdings Berhad's inaugural Sukuk Murabahah Programmes of up to a combined aggregate limit of MYR1.5 billion comprising an Islamic Medium Term Notes Programme of MYR1.5 billion and an Islamic Commercial Papers Programme of up to MYR1.5 billion
